Envy That Coat

Second of three Dreamcoats we built in one year. This one was pretty - the 'skirt' of the coat was not one but three full circles, with wooden poles built into the seams at the sides. He could grab one or both and twirl around to flare it out like he's doing here, it was a really spectacular effect.

I built this by starting with a factory cotton base in the shapes of the coat panels. Then I laid out the serged strips of coloured fabric on top, trying to randomize the pattern as much as I could, and safety pinned each fabric in place. Then I CAREFULLY carried each panel over to the sewing machine and zig-zagged them all into place. Once that was done, the coat was assembled and lined, and the finishing decorations were put on. Lots of work, but wow did it look amazing.
